Before the SEAT 600, Spain was home to many microcar manufacturers. The most successful was the Biscuter, which sold 10000 of its very basic 2 seater. But the ugly little car had great provenance, being tdesigned by the great French aviator Gabriel Voisin, whose luxury cars were unconventional but stylish symbols of the jazz era.
Voisin´s design was too basic for post war France, so was licensed to Autonaciónal SA, Barcelona, who productionsed the concept. With a single cylinder 197cc/7 bhp Hispano-Villiers engine, the Biscuter was slow and uncomfortable, but like all of Voisin´s designs entirely logical. Here, simplicity was the key to a low price, essential in a country recovering from the effects of its Civil War.
The Biscuter is collectible, if no longer very usable, and this example for sale looks to be in good condition. Nothing is expensive to fix, spares are available, the price is good. The seller refuses to answer emails (!), so you can start the ball rolling by phoning him in Can Picafort, Majorca (60kms/1 hour NE of Palma airport).
